FOUNDATION

Mahishadal Girls’ College is the Grant-in-Aided Women College in the District Purba Medinipur, established on 1st August, 1969 by some local affluents viz. Late Dr. Satyendranath Bhunia, M.B., Late Rabindranath Singha, Late Dr. HaridasSarkar, Late Gopal Chandra Mondal and many other eminent personalities of the locality with a view to impart Higher Education among the Girls’ students of the locality as well as other parts of this district and neighbouring districts..

About The College

Mahishadal Girls' College, the only one women's college in Purba Medinipur District, was established on 1st August, 1969. Some local affluent persons viz. Late Dr. SatyendranathBhuniya, M.B., Late Rabindranath Singha, Late Dr. HaridasSarkar, Late Gopal Chandra Mondal and many other eminent persons of the locality took the initiative to establish the college to spread the light of higher education among the women of this predominantly rural area. The college started its journey from a rented building in Rathtala, Mahishadal with a modest number of staff members and students. In 2003, the college was shifted to the picturesque surroundings of Rangibasan, about 1 km. away from its previous location. The college became affiliated to the University of Calcutta in July, 1969. At present, it is affiliated to Vidyasagar University. In its long journey, the college has gone strength to strength and updated itself to live up to the expectations of all its stakeholders. The college has been re-accredited at B level by NAAC Peer Team in 2019. At present, it has become a premier women's college of West Bengal. Students from different parts of our state are being imparted higher education in this college. We hope to render our college into a Centre of Quality Learning with the combined effort of our staff members, students and well-wishers.
